What's good: Following the huge success of PC-turned-iPhone-app Farm Frenzy, Alawar Entertainment set out to develop a bigger and better title that retains all the goodness of the original and expands into a more polished and infinitely more challenging game. In this excellent sequel, you step into the role of farm manager once again and set out to successfully run the land that's been left in your care. The basic process is similar to the first, but with some slight changes. Instead of geese, for example, you need to buy chickens that cluck and peck on the screen, eating patches of green grass that you tap to plant on soil that needs to be irrigated periodically. These hens will then lay eggs which you can either load onto your cargo truck and sell at the market or keep to process into more refined foods like egg solids and pies. As you progress through levels, you will soon be able to buy larger and more costly animals like pigs and cows, which in return give you meat and other products of substantially higher value. If sometimes you find that you lack a key ingredient for a new product, you simply need to deploy your small plane to the market to fetch as many of it as you want - provided you have the means to do so. Of course, things really get hectic after a while, what with having to carefully oversee the entire buying-feeding-collecting-processing-reprocessing-storing-selling cycle AND remembering to catch bears that occasionally drop by looking to make a quick meal of your livestock. What's more, every level gives you a different mission to undertake - whether to have a specific number of animals on hand, produce a certain volume of food, accumulate a set amount of coins, or a combination of the three. Upon completion, you will earn credits that you can use for machine and other upgrades at the store - purchasing a more spacious warehouse, a faster truck or plane, a more efficient processing plant or water system, or an improved cage to catch predators faster will really help you get those coveted gold medals that seem downright impossible to get on your first few tries. Play well enough and you even stand a chance to earn a variety of shiny trophies - for achievements that range from finishing the game to making record time to keeping all animals unharmed after several stages. All this is set in a detailed rural world full of vibrant color and fun, old-fashioned sounds that wraps up the entire experience beautifully, making for an app we can highly recommend to all fans of time management games.
Suggestions for improvement: There should be more helpful instructions since the game basically leaves you to your own devices without ever explaining things like having to buy things you can't produce on your own from the market. Other than that, this is one exciting and enjoyable game we find very hard to put down.
