What's good: Create a Mall, reprogrammed for the iPhone and iPod touch by 99 Games, is a fun and fast-paced time management app that gives you the power to create your very own shopping mall right from the palm of your hand. If you're unfamiliar with the game, it's basically a very creative derivation of the Build-a-Lot concept, but instead of developing lots in a neighborhood, you improve various commercial centers and complexes by building shops in them. At the start of the game an NPC introduces you to the basics by guiding you through three tutorial levels set in the sunny town of Tutoland, where you'll learn what there is to know to run a successful enterprise. Similar to other building games, the first step is to purchase a plan or blueprint for a particular type of store. Once done, you can then proceed to constructing it on the unoccupied shop space of your choice, provided you have adequate resources, labor, and of course cash. Upgrading will give you more profit returns as well as boost your mall's popularity, and it's entirely up to you to plan out when and where you want to build improvements in the most efficient way possible. If you manage to complete the goals (these differ from level to level) before the number of days indicated on the left hand side of the screen, you'll acquire a hefty expert bonus and earn store credits which you can use to purchase virtual clothes, shoes, and accessories for your character. This charming extra will definitely appeal to the shopaholic in you as a reward for all your hard work to attain mall mogul status. All in all, thirty levels of progressive difficulty span six towns, each with its own definitive look and personality. Add all the different stores, enhancements, and entertainment hubs to unlock, trophies and medals to win, new goodies to browse and buy, and you get an app that's packed full of features to delight and entertain. If you're a truly seasoned shopper, you'll know a real bargain when you see one - and at just $ 3.99, this pleasantly engaging game definitely is.
Suggestions for improvement: As these games go, Create a Mall is an excellent title, but it can also seem a bit repetitive after several levels. Apart from that, sometimes it takes time for buttons to respond correctly to changes (for example, the upgrade button will not become available at once after you complete all requirements, but since the seconds wasted can make a difference in the outcome, we really hope you fix this issue).
