What's good: First in the series of hugely popular books by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson, Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain finally becomes available on iPhone. Through the innovation of quality game creators Big Blue Bubble and the creative incorporation of touch controls, the classic gets upped to a whole new level and presents a highly engaging and exciting experience for old and new players alike. Do away with the traditional pencils, dice, and papers and dive into this virtual book with device in hand and finger poised at the ready. Before you start, you are given dice to roll to determine your skill, stamina, and luck points - the higher you roll, the better. You also get to choose one of three corresponding potions which will come in handy later in the game, after which it's onwards to adventure! Get immersed in the story as you flip pages and decide your course. Throughout this book, you'll have to choose the path the narration takes as you make decisions on which directions to pursue, actions to take, doors to open, creatures to fight or avoid, and objects to bring along or leave in a quest through the dank and danger-strewn dungeons of Firetop Mountain. Everything - from attack damage statistics to behaviors and outcomes of certain things - depends entirely on the numbers you roll out. In other words, this is mostly a luck-based game with elements of strategy and planning thrown in. Remember that to get to the final treasure, you not only have to defeat the powerful warlock guarding it, you also need to have the correct keys in your possession. With meticulously recreated illustrations, smooth and intuitive controls, tastefully simple design and sound effects, and unpredictably exciting gameplay, reading a book cannot possibly get more fun or engaging than this! Will you triumph against the hazards that lurk in the caves and acquire what you set out for, or will you get lost in the gloomy underground maze and perish beneath the claws of bloodthirsty evils? Find out now for just $ 2.99 - and if you're on the losing end, you can always rewrite your destiny.

Suggestions for improvement: Dice-rolling and number-adding animations are far too slow - we recommend an update that allows these to be skipped. Apart from that, we'd love to see an instructions manual that can be accessed in-game, as well as some sort of basic map you can add to (draw on).
