What's good: From the innovative creators of the well-received word game Guess the News comes yet another unique app for your iPhone or iPod touch! Picking up where they first left off, Finger Arts expanded on their feed-integrated news-guessing idea and added the challenge of classic hangman to come up with Hangman RSS, a fun and challenging game that's 'for the brave only.' Naturally, it's a lot harder than their first title, because the concept of Hangman is by nature rather unforgiving - or at least, limits your tries to the six strokes it takes to draw a stick figure of a man on the gallows. Apart from this major difference, the animations, sound effects, as well as the overall feel and polish are reminiscent of its predecessor. As you might already know, you first need to connect to the internet to get news and headlines. Once you've loaded a few articles, you can choose a difficulty mode (medium and difficult levels are locked at first) whereupon you're whisked off to a crisp and nicely laid out game screen - there's part of the article's title at the top of the page, a small hand-drawn gallows ready for its victim in the center, and tiles of the alphabet lined up from A-Z as well as a snippet of the news to be guessed at the bottom. The gameplay itself is very similar to Wheel of Fortune, but instead of voicing out your choice of letters, you tap on your iPhone or iPod touch instead. Use your knowledge of current events to win rounds as fast as you can, and remember, every wrong letter is one step closer to game over. Keep a continuous streak of wins to unlock achievements and new modes, rack up OpenFeint points, and share results with your friends! With a little luck and news savvy, you'll find yourself speeding through difficult rounds - a smile on your face and a spring in your finger tap. Suggestions for improvement: We thought that being able to select articles by category was one of the best things about Guess the News, and we'd really love to see that feature integrated into Hangman RSS!
