What's good: After being joyfully anticipated by their legions of fans for quite some time, PopCap Games' hit PC game Plants vs. Zombies has finally come to the iPhone and iPod touch! A tower defense, strategy, and time management mega combo, this insanely fun and addicting title takes place in perhaps one of the most common settings in the world - your house. But when its about to be invaded by a swarm of hungry zombies and you have nothing to defend with, you'll start getting creative and look to your only hope - an arsenal of plants - to spare you the gruesome death of getting your brains devoured. It's a good thing the undead are infernally slow-moving creatures, because that gives you several minutes to plan(t) your defense lines before they break down your flimsy door. Get your shovel ready, dig up some dirt, and get those greens up across your lawn to start a revolution! Each level gives you a limited number of seed slots, so choose your plants carefully. Pick sun-giving plants to give you the sunlight needed to grow your war garden; peashooters, cabbage or watermelon catapults, purple fume shooters, cattails on lily pads, explosive cherry bombs and potato mines, or spiky cactus stumps to form an offensive front; tough seeds, leafy greens, and dangerously sharp spikes for a solid defense; as well as a handful of other unique and creatively imagined plants like grave busters, hypnotic or magnetic shrooms, blower clovers, and flaming torchwood. Every level brings a huge variety of zombies to match your ever-growing range of flowers and greenery, from metal-bucket capped, pogo-jumping, dolphin-riding zombies to football playing, screen-door shielding, and even Thriller-dancing crews of undead. Of course, they aren't very smart, but watch out for changes of tactic as they try to come at you from your front yard, backyard, and rooftop - both during the day and night and sometimes even in foggy conditions. Each new scenario requires a slight shift in strategy, but every win unlocks a new plant and gives you access to the informative (and rather hilarious) plant and zombie almanac as well as Crazy Dave's shop, where you purchase special plant upgrades and other goodies like extra seed slots and garden rakes. Prove your horticulture prowess and earn badges for impressive achievements such as completing a night level without using any mushrooms, discovering the elusive Yeti zombie, and collecting all 49 plants. With over fifty levels, tons of unlockables, gorgeous cartoon graphics, and whimsical soundtracks, there is absolutely no doubt that no matter what kind of gamer you are, you will dig this unique game - if not from the onset, it'll definitely grow on you soon enough.

Suggestions for improvement: As long-time fans of the PC version, we really would love to see the Zen Garden and other game modes integrated into the iPhone version. Adding a social gaming platform like Open Feint for achievements and high scores could likewise be a good idea.
